The Legend of Roddy McFodderwink
Out on the prairies of northern Manitoba, where the winters are long and the women are scarce, lived a 73-year old reclusive sugarbeet farmer. The neighbors considered him odd but harmless, and he spent the long winters in his basement, where he made sugarbeet wine and made, as his closest neighbor Bill Rubba would say, "quite a ruckus."One day in 1997, the beet farmer, Roddy McFodderwink, vanished. Since he had no friends or relatives, his neighbors and bill collectors swarmed in on his house to great alarm -- nestled in the pantry, behind the coffeemaker, underneath the sink, just about everywhere -- were cassette tapes! At last count, more than 2300 cassette had been found; most were filled with unlistenable lunatic ravings, but a handful of them contained songs.
Longing to earn some sort of profit on the piles of debt that McFodderwink had, his bank is releasing his songs in a desperate attempt to gain some quick cash.
Will McFodderwink ever be found? No one knows. But here is his life's work... at least, the part of it that passes for music.
