DAGANI! In Africa!

By Humboldt Currents

“Africa, the wild continent. In a place where danger lurks at every street corner, one man has come to tempt fate and wrestle destiny to the ground. With courage and convictions, Dagani! will tame the savage soul of the dark continent. Which is also wild.”

Chapter Two

The Apartment, South Africa.

Dagani! stepped out of the shower. Wrapped in a white towel, he immediately went to call the ambassador to notify him of the attempt on his life.

“Dagani! It’s good to hear from you.” The ambassador’s warm and friendly voice cracks slightly over the phone. “I know you wanted some time to rest, but please come in immediately.”

Frank and Dagani! get into the car and head over to the embassy. Evening sets fast in South Africa, and the darkness seems imminent. Frank drives quickly, pass security, and Dagani! is rushed into the ambassador’s office.

“Mister Dagani! It’s so good to see you!” The ambassador offers his hand in appreciation. Silently, the ambassador’s protocol officer watches on.

“Master.”

“What?”

“Well, I do have a degree.”

“Right, master Dagani! Welcome to South Africa! I’m sorry that your stay has already been so eventful. Thank you for coming over here so quickly.”

“Where I go, I expect danger. It’s like a welcome committee. Only, dangerous. And with less cookies.”

“Well, we’ll add more men to your detail if you would like. They can guard your apartment.”

“Nonsense,” says Dagani! “I’m not worried about this, what’s it called? The Militia?”

“I’m afraid the Militia is only one of our concerns. They’ve infested Menlyn Park with their activities. Please, let me give you some guards…”

“I think Frank is well equipped to handle any emergencies.”

“Yes, Frank is a good man. He’s been in the service for twenty years - he’s our top man in the region. Now that you’re here, there’s something I wanted to ask you, something of a sensitive nature.”

“Yes, ambassador?” Dagani! leans in to listen.

“Couldn’t you have taken the time to put on some proper clothes? Wearing only that towel, I can see your ‘private eye’ and both your ’secret agents’.”

Dagani! covers up with the towel. “Ambassador, I assure you that my priority was meeting you under any circumstances.”

At that moment, a gun shot is heard from outside the window. The sound of screeching tires and the crashing of the front gate.

“Everyone, get down! Not in the dancing, boogie sense, either!” yells Dagani!

The protocol officer listens to his earpiece.

“It’s your car, Dagani! It’s been kidnapped — with Frank inside! It appears to be the act of the Militia!”

“Then, I have no choice - I must go to Menlyn Park and rescue Frank from the evil Militia!” With that, Dagani! bids farewell to the ambassador and leaves his office.

What will happen next?? Will Dagani! ever get dressed? Will Dagani! find Frank and can he stop the Militia’s plans for local domination? Will the beautiful Raquael change Dagani!’s mind forever?

All of this, and more, coming up later in…. DAGANI! in Africa!

DAGANI! In Africa!

“Africa, the wild continent. In a place where danger lurks at every street corner, one man has come to tempt fate and wrestle destiny to the ground. With courage and convictions, Dagani! will tame the savage soul of the dark continent. Which is also wild.”

Chapter One

Johannesburg, South Africa.

The airport is busy, with the musty smells of a million travelers and two million feet. Underneath a sign welcoming visitors to O. R. Tambo International Airport, a young man smokes a cigar nervously. He is waiting for Dagani!

All he knows of the man is that Dagani! is the best.

With a stream of new faces rolling by, he sees him. There is Dagani! He looks like Indiana Jones, only Jewish.

“Mister Dagani! Welcome to Africa!”

Dagani! pauses to size the man up. In an instant, he knows who he is, and that this man will be crucial to his plans in South Africa. “Hello! But it’s Master.”

“Master? We don’t use that here. It has too many connotation of the bad times.”

“Well, I do have a degree.”

“Mister Dagani! It is an honor to meet you! Let me take your bag. I am Bobokinarampu Kapareshtaping, but you may call me Frank.”

“Thank you, Frank.” Dagani! sees that Frank is young, earnest, but street smart and capable.

“You must be very tired! I will take you to your apartment so you can rest before meeting with Ambassador Lotho.” Frank places Dagani!’s bags into the trunk and opens the door.

On the way into town, Dagani! stares out the window. The faces are so familiar, yet so foreign. Each street corner is filled with people. People walking, people riding bikes, people shopping. Young children are playing on the corners. Next to the tall buildings are rich men with fancy cars, and yet only a few blocks away are signs of poverty and desperation. It is a place with much trouble, yet there are signs of hope.

“Thank you, Frank, for picking me up! I’m glad the agency here is so well prepared.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t say that, sir. The agency is in turmoil these days. Too much infighting, no one taking charge. You must be careful! There is danger here at every turn!”

Frank makes a sharp right turn, and Dagani! is almost thrown across the car.

“Well, maybe not danger at every turn. At every right turn there is danger. And every third left turn, danger waits as well. The other two left turns are just an annoyance, like a very bad smell, or maybe some dog poo left on the street. You know, frustrating, but not worth getting worried about.”

Dagani! must have dozed off, because they were already at the apartment. “I will take your bags in,” says Frank, “and make your bath.”

Dagani! turns on the shower and finds the perfect combination of hot and cold. After almost twenty-four hours on the plane, twenty-two of those sitting next to an Armenian insurance salesman, it feels good to cleanse the dirt of ten thousand miles off his body.

Just then, Dagani! hears a snap! All of a sudden, the water turns very cold. Dagani! struggles, turns and twists the knob, desperately trying to get the hot water back. All he can do is turn off the shower.

“Frank! Frank! Come quick!” Dagani! wraps himself in a towel.

“Yes, mister Dagani!”

“Master…”

“Sir?”

“Well, I do have a degree.”

“What do you need, Dagani!?”

“Frank, someone has turned off the hot water.”

“Oh no! It is just as I feared.”

“What is it, Frank? What happened?”

“It is the Militia. A very dangerous group. It is their calling card. They know you are here… and next time, they might cut off more than the hot water.”

What will happen next?? Will Dagani! survive his run-in with cold water? Will Dagani! meet the ambassador, and can he stop the Militia’s plans for local domination? Will the beautiful Raquael change Dagani!’s mind forever?
