I had a lovely quick weekend to Seattle to visit family and friends. I stayed with my previous roommates, Jerry and Yi. Yi is finished her Ph.D. at the University of Washington, and Jerry is working for a large, Seattle-based company rhymes with SchmicroSchmoft. We had a great time eating sushi, walking around downtown, visiting the world’s first Starbucks, and then going next door to yet another Starbucks.
Saturday night we ate at this fantastic cheap sushi place, Hana’s on Broadway. Highly recommended!
I got up early on Sunday to have brunch in Abbotsford, BC (that’s Canada, people), to visit Shannon and Jason, friends I met earlier in Regina. Jason just got off a shift picking up dead people in his van and Shannon didn’t quite have to go to work at the immigration office, so we had a nice breakfast at IHOP and some fun chatting. They are without a doubt two of the sweetest people in North America.
Then on the Normany Park Cove, where, next to a neo-Nazi Republican rally, the Parr family had a little reunion. Uncle Greg, Aunts Margaret Ann, Jean, Beth, and Mary Ann were on hand along with a smattering of grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Then Jerry and Yi and I went out for a Korean meal. Not my favorite.
Sunday morning had us visiting Starbucks yet again, and walking around the lovely campus of the University of Washington. Then we had dim sum with Jerry and Yi’s friends.
Finally, we drove down to Burien to watch a good, old-fashioned 4th of July parade complete with dancers, a marching band, loud motorcycles, the governor of the state, and the mayor.
Dinner was a I Love Sushi on Lake Union, which was suprisingly expensive and bland. I guess I’m biased after Hana’s!
