Bush: A Theory

There’s been a bit of discussion lately that the White House asks for questions before a Bush press conference, otherwise it won’t accept the reporter’s inquiries. I have no idea how true this is or not. But this report, coming from different sources, coupled with this Bob Woodward report that Karl Rove wants people to think that Cheney is in charge, makes me suspect that there is some cunning dynamic at work.

Let’s look at this logically. What are the possibilities?

  1. Bush is an intelligent leader and tries to appear this way in public.

  2. Bush is an intelligent leader but often plays the fool in public.

  3. Bush is an idiot but appears a strong leader in public.

  4. Bush is an idiot and appears that way in public.

Let’s look at each of them carefully. As much as I hate to say it, #4 isn’t true. Bush and his cabinent are far too competent at what they’re trying to do to be idiots. Not that I agree in the least with their goals or motives, but they are successful.

#1 and #3 is largely untrue is popular opinion is right.

So why could #2 be true? Why would Bush appear to be foolish in public? Why create the illusion? What are the recent facts that support this?

  • Bush’s recent press conference. He was uneasy, unsure, and couldn’t answer basic questions, even though the questions were likely known (or could be guessed) before the conference.

  • By consenting to appear at the September 11th commision only with Cheney, he appears to be a puppet.

Russia Sells Space Program to China

Moscow (AP News) — Russian president Vladimir Putin has announced today that Russia will sell it’s space program to China
for an undisclosed amount.

Rumors began circulating last week that a sale was imminent as the Russian foreign debt has reached astronomical proportions.
China, which launched it’s first man into space last year, will use the Russian program to get a leg-up on the space race.

Putin’s spokesperson Pikkup Androppov stated that although the sale would be completed by the end of the year, the complete
transfer or properties, including Russia’s share of the International Space Station, would not be complete until the end of the
decade.

“Staring in 2007, however, Cosmonauts on the Space Station will be replaced with Sinonauts. Our satellite network, excluding
communications and defense satellites, will be transferred in 2008. Of course, that’s just one sattellite — the one we use to track the movement of Gorbachev’s giant birthmark.”

The Chinese government has not commented on the sale, but the mood in China is generally one of contented enthusiasm. China
expects to be a major player in Google’s Coppernicus Center.

Russia originally considered sale of it’s space program piecemeal through the on-line auction service, eBay.
