It was Rove

According to Atrios, Julian Borger says that several reporters are secretly naming Karl Rove as the source of the leak.

This Yahoo! story has the memorable line:

“The focus on Rove brought an odd twist to Bush’s travels. When the president boarded Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base outside of Washington, he walked up the steps and waved - and not a single camera followed. He looked momentarily perplexed. All lenses were trained on Rove at the bottom of the steps. “

I Doth Spy with My Little Eye…

Reading The Onion this morning, they mentioned a new tv show: a parody of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy called Black Eye for the White Guy (which is funny on so many levels.) I have a few ideas:

Palestinian Eye for the Israeli Guy

Progessive Eye for the Neocon Guy

Transvestite Eye for the Crossdressing Guy/Gal

Extra Eye for the Cyclops Guy

Tasty Eye for the Cannibal Guy

Roman “I” for that Claudius Guy

Seeing Eye for the Blind Guy

and finally,

Eye for an Eye for that Hammarabi Guy

Story Idea

Here’s a free one for someone who can develop it… a man who works at a University is Dorian Gray’s picture, always getting older, while all of the students are always young. A freebie for ya!

Two people in the White House Should Go to Jail

This story from the so-called “New York Times”, mentions Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson’s wife, a CIA-agent whose cover was blown by not one, but TWO SENIOR White House officials.

Wilson was critical of the White House’s use of unproven intelligence regarding an alleged ploy by Sadaam Hussein to purchase “yellowcake” uranium from Niger. These claims were dismissed by a bi-partisan intelligence panel, but the intelligence was still used MONTHS later in Bush’s State of the Union address.

This is an incredibly serious felony, and moreso, shows a callous disregard to intelligence and the people who serve this country. For something that clearly appears to be a political act of retribution, it’s disturbing and dispicable. Anyone who places politics over the safety of our nation should be reminded of the cost of liberty…

…by spending a few decades in prison.

Not having seen the original, I can’t compare this film with that one. But on it’s own merits, it’s not a great film, and although it does have some suspenseful moments and a quality amount of gore, I can’t say it was terribly frightening.

Moreover, it seemed like a great excuse to get Jessica Biel’s white t-shirt wet alot. I don’t know where all the water came from — sprinklers, rain, puddles of blood (that mysteriously wash away)… but hey, if that’s your thing, then you’ll enjoy that.

My biggest complaint, however, is with the direction. It was jumpy, and generally not well-paced. There are quite a few times when you can’t tell what’s going on. The mood switches from darkly gothic to bright and sunny without much in between, which leads to a lack of continuity.

At the screening, which the amazing Alamo Drafthouse held at the abandoned Travis State School (where part of the film was shot) was a great setup. On top of a hill overlooking Austin, which a soft breeze and plenty of mosquitos, R. Lee Ermey, best known from his role as the tough-but-unlovable drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, came and gave us a raunchy, “salty” version of the making of that film and quite a few others. Afterwards, the Frighteners was shown.
