The Silent Plague: Antisemi-semitism
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008Most of my friends and the one reader of this blog know that I’m half-Jewish on my mother and father’s sides*. But what most people don’t know is the daily pain and trauma that being half-Jewish means.
Being half-a-Jew means you’re not accepted in either mainstream (aka Christian) society nor in Jewish society. You can’t hang out at the “Y” (”Young Man Christian’s Association) nor at the “J” (Jewish… something something.) And don’t even mention the “IHBTAOAAR” (Islam, Hindu, Buddhism, Taoism and Other Assorted Asian Religions”). People don’t invite you to their pork barbecues, and the Temple wonders why you always want to eat fish on the Sabbath dinners.
That’s how I feel - an outsider in two worlds.
I’m half.
I’m half Jew and half -Ish.
I’m half church and half synagogue.
I’m half donut and half bagel.
I’m a nut-bag.
So I’ve decided that it’s time to fight this menace to society. (Well, half of society.) I’ve setup the Davestrong Foundation II** which will raise money to fight antisemi-semitism.***
Please donate generously.
* That’s right, both sides. My father converted from Catholicism to Judaism when they got married, and my mother converted to narcissist. But that’s another story.
** The Davestrong Foundation I is a foundation to raise college money for needy student… named Dave.
*** We’re also fighted antisemi-semi-semitism, which is racism against half-Jews who drive big rigs.
